Chapter 2:
Where am I? (2-27-6)
So the legend of the dogarm is told thusly...
One cold and windy night my friend Shawn and I were relaxing over a brew and a jay. This is right after I had inked up my left forearm, and I was trying to come up with a similar design for the right.
After a while, Shawn saw the words on my arm (see Chapter I) and instead of correctly interpreting what I had written Shawn read, "You Are Here." After a good laugh at my friend's expense, I had an intense intuition that I should write "You Are Here" on the other side, and so the dogarm was born.
I know that sounds like a stupid joke, but the truth of the matter is that, "You Are Here" is as important for me to remember as "Who Are You?" For instance, how many of you reading this have ever been driving home from work, thinking about what you need to buy at the grocery store later on, only to barely miss rear-ending the car that stopped suddenly in front of you (we hope.) All of us have had this or some similar experiance. An experiance that could have been avoided if we had been concentrating on (as master Yoda puts it,) where we are, what we were doing.
Whenever I see the armor of the dog on my arm, I remember to focus in and clear my mind of any abstractions that might be running through it, and concentrate of the task at hand, whatever it may be.
Besides I've always held to the assumption that if you know Who You Are, and you know Where You Are, you're in pretty good shape.
